i • DEA (n): Interactive Digital Education Academy (iDEA) is a K - 12 professional development workshop incorporating the filmmaking process into core curriculum.
"The students are engaged in learning in a way I've never seen before...more creative and focused." - iDEA Participating Educator
The iDEA experience begins with a weeklong residential workshop. Participants collaborate through a project-based filmmaking production process that models teaching strategies for use in a classroom setting. The workshop is followed by iDEA staff support throughout the academic year. The intended outcomes of this professional development training are:
Goal 1: Positively impact the way teachers use multimedia-based instructional strategies and to increase their skills and understanding of such strategies.
Goal 2: Increase teachers' participation in activities that will strengthen their teaching practices and roles in education through professional development and teacher education programs.
Goal 3: Improve students multimedia skills and understanding, and their engagement in 21st Century Skills.
In 2007 and 2008, Spy Hop Productions is expanding the iDEA professional development experience to additional K – 12 educators from within and outside the state of Utah.
